Breaking The Rules

Ceiling Picture

This photograph breaks the rule of lines because there are lines going in many different directions. As you can see there are horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines. My favourite part of this photo is the light captured from the sun roof as it affects the colour of the ceiling and also shows the different shades of blue. I chose to take a picture of the ceiling because we often do not appreciate the ceiling and safety that it provides.

Christmas Light

This photograph breaks the rules by showing different types of lines. The lines in the bulb of the light are a contrast to the lines in the bricks of contrast to the wall. This breaks the rules because the lines are not the same, the lines in the bricks travel one way and the lines in the bulb are sporadic and travel in many different ways. I took this photograph by zooming in directly on the light bulb in order to make the brick unfocused, and the focal point as the bulb. I tried to express the blue light and the beauty of its glow. Blue is a thematic colour that expresses many things. Also, being that it's close to christmas, I wanted to capture the festive feeling.

Basketball Net

I chose to shoot this photography from below the basketball net looking up because I wanted to take the photo from a different angle than others might. When looking at this photo, although it looks like I took it from above, I did not. This was because of the way the net was formed, on the right side of the net, the netting looks like it's flipped over. For breaking the rules for rule of thirds, I chose to take it from right under the net and centered. This is because for the rule of thirds, you have to take it from the side of the outline of photograph, and by breaking this it creates a photograph with the effect of an illusion. I chose to shoot a basketball net because basketball has been a large part of my family - I have played, my sister, and my dad and mom have all played basketball. I wanted to represent how much this sport means to me in a photograph.
